Pediatric Care, Consent & Confidentiality
Effective date: October 25, 2026
Telehealth for eligible children
MyTeleHealthPoint evaluates appropriate medical concerns in children as well as adults. Eligibility depends on age, symptoms, clinician scope, available examination methods, and applicable law. A clinician may require video, urine or other laboratory testing, an in-person examination, or emergency care when messaging is not safe enough.
Who may authorize care
For most children's visits, the care team verifies the parent, guardian, or other authorized representative and records the appropriate consent before treatment and required billing. The team also verifies the child's identity and physical presence in Ohio. A person using the same phone or account is not automatically authorized to consent or receive records.
Confidential services for minors
Some minors have legal rights to consent to certain services or testing without ordinary parental consent. Ohio applies different rules to HIV testing, STI diagnosis/treatment, and limited outpatient mental-health services; the identity and license type of the treating clinician can matter. The limited Ohio self-consent law for outpatient mental-health services for minors 14 and older does not include medication treatment. Mental-health medication visits advertised for ages 15+ therefore require valid consent under the applicable rules; age alone is not consent authority.
If confidentiality protections apply, we verify authorized communication and billing arrangements before sending results, detailed receipts, proxy invitations, or notifications. We may refer the patient to a qualified service rather than risk improper disclosure or care outside clinician authority.
When an in-person evaluation is needed
Some pediatric conditions cannot be reliably assessed by remote messages. A young infant with fever, a child with severe breathing problems, suspected dehydration, symptoms of serious infection, or concerning urinary symptoms may require urgent in-person evaluation. Do not delay emergency evaluation for an online reply.
